Oilers Young Guns Crown Canucks 2-1 in OT

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns knocked off the Vancouver Canucks 2-1 in overtime to win 2 games in a row. The Oilers drew a penalty early in the first period. At 3:23 Mark Letestu moved the puck over to Conner McDavid in the neutral zone. McDavid brought it over the Canucks blue line and bounced it off the left half boards back to himself. He moved to the left corner and spotted Nail Yakupov in the slot and passed it to him. Yakupov got a good snap shot to beat Canucks goalie Ryan Miller on the right hand side to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead.

Later in the first period Vancouver tied the score 1-1. The teams then went scoreless for the next two periods. Oilers goalie Anders Nilsson played superb stopping several quality shots. He was lucky when the Sedin twins came in on a break. Henrik Sedin shot the puck and the rebound was in front of the net for an easy tap in. But Daniel Sedin chipped the puck over the net on a point blank shot to keep the game tied.

In overtime the teams traded chances 3 on 3. At 1:46 the Canucks had the puck in the Oilers zone when Andrej Sekera checked Henrik Sedin to the boards and took the puck. He skated up the right hand side through the neutral zone and over the Canuck blue line on a two on one break. He saucered a beautiful back hand pass on to the stick of Lauri Korpikoski going down the middle. Korpikoski was all alone and fired a shot that squeaked through the pads of Goalie Ryan Miller to give the Oil a 2-1 OT win and snap Miller’s 12 game winning streak against the Oilers.
