Oilers Young Guns Comeback against Habs, Priceless

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns completed a stunning comeback against the Montreal Canadiens erasing a three goal lead and snapping a three game loosing streak. Montreal got off to a blistering start scoring 3 goals in the first period to go up 3-0.

In the second period the two teams played cautiously with the Habs looking to sit on the lead for the rest of the game. But that plan backfired. In the last minute of the second period the Oilers were on a power play. At 19:08 the Oilers had the puck in the Habs zone and passed the puck around. RNH had the puck on the right hand circle and moved in. He stopped and passed the puck back to Oscar Klefbom at the blue line, who blasted a shot. The puck grazed Taylor Hall on the shoulder and flew over the net and bounced off the end boards. Leon Draisaitl shot the puck as it bounced back and deflected it off the blocker of Goalie Carey Price and it bounced into the air. The puck was on its way into the goal but a Montreal defenceman knocked it out of mid-air with his glove. The play went into review and it was found that the puck crossed the goal line to make the score 3-1.

In the third period the Young Guns continued to press the play. At 6:16 Connor McDavid rushed the puck out of his zone and carried it all the way into the Canadiens territory. He veered to the right but was hauled down by a Canadien defenceman. But McDavid quickly got up off the ice in the right hand corner and retrieved the loose puck. He passed it back to Darnell Nurse at the blue line. Nurse quickly lateraled the puck to Brandon Davidson on the left hand side. Davidson moved in and blasted a slap shot. The puck found the net near the left hand post and the Oilers cut the lead down 3-2.

At 10:43 Nail Yakupov pushed the puck out of his zone and bounced it off the boards to Connor McDavid on the right hand side. Just past the center line McDavid deftly lifted the stick of P.K. Subban allowing the puck to get past him. He then chipped a pass down the middle to Benoit Pouliot over the blue line. Pouliot was in all alone and snapped a shot passed the blocker side of the Habs goalie to complete the comeback and tie the score 3-3.

In the last few minutes of the third period at 18:58 the Oilers Young Guns retrieved the puck in their own zone. Taylor Hall brought the puck up the left hand side and shot the puck into the Montreal zone from the center line. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins cut in from the center and chased down a Montreal defenceman for the puck that was going around the left corner. Nugent-Hopkins slapped the stick of the defender and knocked the puck loose. He picked up the puck and circled the net looking for a pass. Taylor Hall was in front of the net on the right hand side acting as a decoy and taking the attention from Habs goalie Cary Price for a split second. Nugent-Hopkins spotted Leon Leon Draisaitl skating in down the middle and snapped a pass to him. Draisaitl received the pass in front of the net and let a wrist shot fly into the open left hand side of the net to give the Oilers a 4-3. lead. The Oil went on to win and leave Price less a victory.
