Oilers Young Guns Snap 11 Game Loosing Streak

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns snapped an 11 game loosing streak by defeating the San Jose Sharks 2-1. The first game of a home and home against the Sharks started good for the well rested Oilers as they out played and out shot the tired sharks 11-2 in the first period. The score remained scoreless at the end of the first period.

The Oil scored first in the second period on a power play. Jeff Petry blasted a shot from the blue line on the left hand side. The Sharks got tangled up as one of the Sharks defenseman fell on his own goalie. In the mad scramble for the loose puck on the left hand side of the goal Jordan Eberly fished the puck out while behind the net and passed it to the front. The puck bounced off the side of the net and went into the slot. Nail Yakupov was there in front to snap the shot into an open net to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead. But two minutes later the Sharks tied the game.

In the third period with ten minutes left to go in the game Teddy Purcell on the right hand side shot the puck to the goal. The puck rebounded behind the net where Purcell gathered it up again. He passed off to David Perron still on the right hand side. Perron spun around and snapped a shot that went waist high into the slot. The puck deflected off a Sharks defender in front of the net and into the goal to give the Oilers a 2-1 lead. Both teams battled back and forth as the Oilers tried to maintain their lead. With time running out the Shark pulled their goal tender. But the Oilers held on to finally post a win.

Meanwhile GM Craig MacTavish looked calmly down to ice level from his suite as the Oilers Young Guns saluted the crowd.

Oilers Young Guns Lose 11 And MacT Speaks

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns continued on an 11 game loosing streak dropping 2 more. The Oil lost to the Arizona Coyotes 5-2 after leading 1-0 in the first. But at the start of the second period they disintegrated on their own power play allowing 2 short handed goals on the same power play to the same player.

They went on to play the Winnipeg Jets loosing 3-2 in overtime. The Jets scored first but the Oil rallied to score the next 2 goals. But with only about 3 minutes left in the game the Jets tied it up on a back handed deflection from the left side of the net. Then 17 seconds into OT the Jets fired another shot that was tipped in front to hand the Oilers their 11th straight loss. GM Craig MacTavish could only look up in shock at the replay in his suite.

A few days later General Manager Craig MacTavish addressed the media at a press conference. He looked frazzled as he took questions from the press. The media and Oilers fans fired blistering criticism for the teams latest performances. But the GM held his ground saying that there were no immediate changes that could pull the team out of its misery. There would be no management nor coaching changes and no trades at this time. The Oilers Young Guns would stay intact and it was only up to them to post the next win.
