Oilers Young Guns Devastate Sharks With Ben Scrivens 59 Save Shutout

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns devastated the San Jose Sharks 3-0 in a remarkable Shutout by Ben Scrivens. He turned away 59 shots on a scintillating performance to set a franchise record and post his second win for the Edmonton Oilers. The Oil have now won three games in a row.

In the first period Scrivens turned away shot after shot. Then at 10:51 the Oil gained the zone. Taylor Hall got the puck in the right hand corner and passed to Nick Schultz. He then passed it to Justin Schultz on the right hand point and he fired a shot. The Oilers converged on net as the shot sailed over the shoulder of Sharks goaltender Niemi to make 1-0.

In the Second period the Sharks out shot the Oilers 22-9. About half way through the period Bracken Kearns of the Sharks fired a shot but was absolutely robbed in the slot on a glove save by Scrivens to preserve the lead.

In the third period the Oilers D of Petry and Marincin turned away a Sharks attack. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins gathered the puck at center ice and moved it up the right hand boards to Jordan Eberly. Eberly then gained the zone with speed and passed over to the right hand side to an open Taylor Hall. Hall took a second to load up and fired a blistering shot to the top shelf and send the goalies water bottle splashing and made it 2-0.

At 18:40 of the third period RNH retrieved a loose puck at center and brought it into the Sharks zone. He dropped a pass off to Taylor Hall who blasted it into the goalies pads. The Nuge was there to poke it loose as Eberly darted in on net. Eberly then snapped a shot in close to salt away the Sharks 3-0.

The first star of the game to a standing ovation was Oilers Goalie Ben Scrivens.

Oilers Young Guns Defeat the Vancouver Canucks

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns defeated the Vancouver Canucks 4-2. David Perron scored a hat trick to seal the deal. The Oil snapped a seven game road loosing streak and beat Vancouver for the first time this season. The Oilers are now on a two game winning streak with Bryzgalov posting his fourth win.

In the first period both teams played defensively with few shots on goal. At 9:11 the Canucks broke out of their zone but were turned back in the neutral zone. Yakupov gained the Canuck zone and made a short pass to Gagner on the left hand side. Perron broke for the net while Gagner saucer passed the puck on to the tape and Perron snapped the puck passed Luongo to make it 1-0. A couple minutes later Vancouver scored to tie the game.

At 17:34 of the first period Ryan Nugent-Hopkins chased down a Vancouver player and pressured him to pass. Perron intercepted the puck and left it free. Yakupov picked up the puck and charged the net on the right hand side. He shot off of Luongo’s pad in tight. Perron was there for the rebound and hammered a shot in to make it 2-1.

In the second period the Canucks scored to tie it 2-2. Near the end of the period Bryzgalov made two quick saves, kicking one out with his toe to preserve the tie.

In the third period at 2:20 Ryan Smyth passed the puck to the point for Taylor Hall who slapped the shot in on goal. Smyth picked up the rebound on the left side of the net and passed it into the slot. The puck got through two Vancouver defenders and Joensuu was there to wrist the shot through the five hole and make it 3-2.

The Canucks then pressed to tie the game almost scoring with a huge pile up in front of the Oilers net with four minutes remaining. At 18:51 the Canucks pulled their goalie and brought the puck up but Perron intercepted the puck at the blue line and shot it from center ice to score an empty net goal and to close it out 4-2. It was Perron’s second career hat trick and gave him 22 goals on the season for a new career high.

Oilers Young Guns Pound the Preds

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns pounded the Predators 5-1 to snap a six game loosing skid. The Oil started off early at 2:59 when Joensuu got the puck in the high slot and passed it over to Justin Schultz cutting to the net on the left hand side. Schultz then snapped a shot on the short hand side to beat the goalie and make it 1-0. The Preds tied it up later in the period. Then with 12 seconds remaining in the period the Oilers Young Guns gained the zone. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins flew passed the blue line and dropped a pass to Taylor Hall who was trailing behind him on the left hand side. He appeared to take a shot but it was a pass to Jordan Eberly who got behind the defence on the right of the net and deflected the pass to make it a 2-1 game.

In the second period at 10:12 on a power play Potter shot the puck from the point. Ryan Smith was there battling in front of the net and shot in the loose puck as he was going down to make it 3-1. It was Smith’s 125 career power play goal to tie Wayne Gretzky on the great one’s 53 birthday for second on the Oilers all time list for power play goals. At 16:46 Gagner picked up a loose puck and started a break on the right hand side. Two Oilers converged on the net to take away the defence and Nail Yakupov trailed behind. Gagner centered the pass to Yakupov down the middle who one timed it to make it 4-1.

In the third period the Preds pushed back out shooting the Oilers 17-7 as the Oil protected their lead. A goal by Nashville was called off when Ben Scrivens the Oilers goal tender was interfered with for the second time in the game. But Scrivens shut the door on any more goals after that. At 15:32 the Oilers Young Guns were once again on the power play. Justin Shultz gathered a rebound at the point and passed it down the left to Jordan Eberly at the circle. Eberly then spotted the Nuge and made a cross ice pass. Hopkins then snapped the shot home to make it 5-1 and the Oilers posted a win.

Oilers Young Guns Nipped by the Coyotes

The Edmonton Oiler Young Guns were nipped by the Phoenix Coyotes 4-3 as the Oil failed to complete a comeback in the last half of the game. The teams played even through the first period but then in an inexplicable four minute span near the end of the first period the coyotes caught fire and were sharp shooters on three quick goals. Early in the second period another sharp shooting goal was posted to make it 4-0 for the Coyotes. The Oilers could pack it in but newcomer Matt Hendricks had other things in mind.

At 13:17 of the second period Boyd Gordon took a face off in the Phoenix zone and won it cleanly. Ryan Jones then picked up the puck and passed it to Hendricks who was cutting for the net. The puck deflected off his skate and went over the Coyotes goaltender to make it 4-1. Hendricks then went over to the Oilers bench and rallied the troops to push forward.

In the third period at 1:50 Potter blasted a shot to the far right hand corner. A Coyote player attempted to clear the puck but David Perron was there to take the puck away. From the left hand side he attacked the net and ragged the puck passing a defender to go in clear on net. He brought the puck to his backhand and lifted a shot on the short side over the goalies shoulder to score his team leading 19th goal and cut the lead 4-2.

At 7:50 the Oilers Young Guns continued to press. Taylor Hall retrieved the puck at center ice and sent it up to RNH. Hopkins gained the blue line as the puck bounced around two Coyote defenceman. Jordan Eberly picked up the bouncing puck and dangled it back and forth down the center to the net. He spotted Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and dropped a pass to him, Hopkins kicked the puck off his skate and waited for a shot and wristed it through the five hole of the Phoenix goalie to bring the Oil within one at 4-3.

The Young Oil continued to play a solid game in the third but eventually ran out of time as they out shot the Coyotes 39-29. As the Oilers skated off the ice another disgruntled fan threw an Oilers jersey onto the ice. Coach Eakins was nonplussed as he waited for someone to retrieve the jersey and give it to him and he carried it under his arm to the dressing room.

Oilers Young Guns Solid in Close Loss to Canucks

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns played a solid game as they lost 2-1 to the Vancouver Canucks. The Canucks scored within the first five minutes of the first period and scored again midway through the second period to make it 2-0. The Oil had several quality shots on goal but Luongo was up to the task and was helped by the goal posts as several shots were rung off them.

In the third period the Oilers pushed to get back in the game out shooting the Canucks 12-5. At the 15:00 minute mark Taylor Hall led a furious charge up the right hand side and made a pass to Gagner in front of the net. Gagner shot and crashed into Luongo both toppling to the ice. Hall grabbed the loose puck and circled around the net to the right hand side and spotted Jordan Eberly backing up to create space. Eberly received the pass and wristed the shot into the goal just past the out stretched glove of Luongo to cut the lead in half 2-1.

The Oil continued to press with their net empty in the last few minutes and put a few shots on Vancouver’s goal but time ran out on a spirited effort.

Oilers Young Guns Shot Down by Jets in OT

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns were shot down by the Jets and lost 3-2 in overtime. The first period was scoreless as both teams played solid defence. In the second period at 6:59 the Oilers were on a power play. Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins cycled the puck on the right hand side. Then The Nuge spotted Eberly on the left hand side and passed it over to him. Eberly then moved to the net and wristed a shot to the top right of the net and picked off the corner to make it 1-0.

The Jets then started to pick up the momentum and carried it into the third period. They scored around the five minute mark and added another around the ten minute mark to take the lead 2-1. The Oil were on their heels but at the 18:00 minute mark in the Winnipeg zone Gagner dug it out of the corner and passed it to the blue line. The defenceman slapped a shot and David Perron was in front of the net to tip it out of the air and tie the game 2-2.

In overtime the defence fell apart once again and were scrambling in their zone and turned the puck over to the Jets. A pass was made to the front of the net and Winnipeg scored to win it in OT 3-2.

Oilers Young Guns Mauled in Minni

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns lost 4-1 to the Minnesota Wild. A day after the Oil traded Devan Dubnyk to Nashville for Matt Hendricks, a gritty forward and a third round pick to L.A. for goalie Ben Scrivens both were inserted into the lineup but could not produce a win. In the first period the game was even until Minnesota scored mid way through to make it 1-0.

In the second period at 2:36 Jordan Eberly gathered the puck at the center line. He had Arcobello with him breaking down the right side, two Minnesota defenders raced back and one went down to block the pass then the other defender slid down and out. Eberly then cut to the middle and snapped a shot over the Wild Goalies glove to make it 1-1.

Later in the second things fell apart. With a few minutes left Minnesota scored to make it 2-1. Then Nail Yakupov took a hit with a minute left and on the ensuing rush while he was down the Wild broke for the net and hacked away until they scored to make it 3-1. Then 8 seconds into the third period the Oilers defence fell apart and the Wild scored to make it 4-1.

Oilers Young Guns Down Early in Dallas

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns lost 5-2 to the Dallas Stars. The Stars scored in the first 14 seconds of the game as the Oilers got caught scrambling in their zone. At 3:40 Taylor Hall had the puck on the far left hand side, he spotted Justin Shultz breaking for the net on the right hand side and made a long cross ice pass to him. Schultz took it to the net and stick handled it to his back hand and scored in close to make it 1-1. But Dallas scored twice more in the period to make it 3-1.

In the second period once again the Stars scored early to make it 4-1. At 10:28 the Oil were on a power play and controlling the puck. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins passed the puck down the right hand side to Taylor Hall down low. Hall then passed it into the crease where it deflected off a defender and the goalie. The puck was loose and Gagner dived in and put a backhand up high to cut the lead 4-2.

Later in the second and in the third period the Oil had several good chances to score but it was too little too late. In the last minute Dallas Scored in an empty net to put it away 5-2.

Oilers Young Guns Swept by Hawks in Season Series

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns lost 5-3 to the Chicago Blackhawks and were swept in their season series 3-0. The Oil kept it close in the first period starting off strong. At 6:08 Petry made a long pass up the right hand boards to Hemsky. Hemsky then took the puck and cut in on the net slashing past defenceman Keith and cut in front of the net to wrist a shot on the far left hand side to put the Oil up 1-0. But soon afterward Chicago countered to tie the game 1-1.

In the second period the Blackhawks controlled the puck most of the time and scored early to make it 2-1. Then at 11:29 Boyd Gordon got credit for a weird goal as Chicago was on a power play. Patrick kane was behind the Oilers goal and passed the puck to a defender at the blue line. But the Chicago goalie left the ice for an extra attacker. The puck bounced off the boards and drifted 200 feet to the Chicago goal and went in on the empty net and the game was tied 2-2. But Chicago quickly got that back less than 30 seconds later and scored to make it 3-2.

In the third period at 5:17 the Oilers were attacking the Blackhawk zone. Hemsky passed the puck to a rushing Justin Schultz on the right hand side, he drew the goalie over and passed back to the center where Taylor Hall was wide open to tap in the puck and make it 4-3. But all hopes were dashed when Seabrook scored on a wrist shot that deflected off an Oilers defender to make it 5-3.

Oilers Young Guns Take Down Sid the Kid in OT

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns came from behind to defeat Sidney Crosby and the Penguins 4-3 in overtime. The teams exchanged chances in the first period but it ended scoreless. In the second period Evgeni Malkin made two steals behind the Oilers net and passed to the side of the net to set up the first goal 1-0. At 7:55 Sidney Crosby received a drop pass over the blue line and centered the puck down the middle. The puck deflected off Gagner into the Oilers goal to make it 2-0. It was Crosby’s first career goal against the Oilers in six games he has played against them. He only has San Jose, Chicago and St. Louis to score against.

Early in the third period at :53 the Oil were on a power play. Justin Schultz controlled the puck at the blue line and he passed it down the left side to Eberly who spotted RNH open on the right hand side. He passed it to Hopkins who took a second to adjust the puck and whipped it over the goalies pad and under his glove to make it 2-1. Then at 10:07 the Penguins had an attack going and it was turned back. Hall brought the puck up the right hand side and dropped it off to Gagner. He dished it back to Nugent-Hopkins who made a pass to the center. Taylor Hall was in front of the net and got the loose puck and spun around to tie the score 2-2. A few minutes later Sid the Kid won a face off and the Penguins defence got the puck and scored short side to make it 3-2.

With time running out in the third period at 18:01 Hemsky controlled the puck on the right hand boards and moved it over to Anton Belov. He moved to the center from the blue line and let a snap shot rip, the puck sailed over the goalies shoulder for Belov’s first NHL goal and a 3-3 tie. Late in the third the Penguins gave up a penalty and it went into overtime.

In overtime at 1:01 the Oilers were on the power play and controlled the puck. Hall blasted a shot off the goalies pads and the Pens were unable to clear the puck. It came back out to Justin Schultz who passed it down the left side to Eberly. Once again Eberly spotted Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on the right hand side of the goal. He saucered over a pass and RNH snapped the puck into the goalie, it deflected off of him into the net for a huge Oilers victory.
