Oilers Young Guns Carve Up Predators

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns Carved up the Predators 3-0 in Nashville on a US Thanksgiving Day tilt. The teams played tight in the first period to go scoreless. In the second period during a four on four power play the Oil pressed in the Predators zone. Jordan Eberly made a great play to keep the puck in the zone and made a deft pass to Petry who shot it toward the far side of the goal. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins cut in from the left wing and deflected the puck in for his sixth goal of the season and made it 1-0.

51 seconds later Gagner and Hall broke in for a two on one. Gagner dished the puck over to a streaking Hall who stick handled the puck and scored in close through the five hole to make it 2-0. Early in the third the Preds tried to put presher on the Oilers. But Ilya Bryzgalov in his first start as an Oiler shut them down with 33 saves. Eberly added an empty netterĀ  in the last minute for the Oilers fourth win in five games.

Blackhawks sink Talons into Oilers Young Guns

The Chicago Blackhawks sunk their talons into the Edmonton Oilers Young Guns as they shredded them 5-1. Early in the first period the Oilers were on a power play as Nail Yakupov tried to keep the puck in play at the blueline. But Jonathan Toews knocked the puck free and skated the length of the ice on a breakaway. He deeked out the Oilers goalie and wristed the puck in on an empty net to make it 1-0. A few minutes later Chicago went on a power play and Patrick Kane picked up a loose puck at the side of the net and calmly scored to make it 2-0. The Blackhawks added two more to make it 4-0.

Ilya Bryzgalov made his debut as the Oilers goalie in relief of Dubnyk halfway through the second period. Later in the second period Oilers Young Gun Justin Schultz ripped a slap shot at a sharp angle to ring it off the post to make it 4-1. Assists came from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and a relentless Taylor Hall who kept the play alive. The Hawks added another goal to make it 5-1 to break the Oil’s winning streak at 3.

 

Oilers Young Guns Red Hot against Panthers

The Red Hot Edmonton Oiler Young Guns won their third straight game defeating the Florida Panthers 4-1. The Young Guns scored 14 unanswered goals against the opposition over 3 games before they were scored on. Jordan Eberly opened the scoring on a power play when RNH wristed a shot to the goal. It bounced up over the goalie and Eberly knocked it out of the air to make it 1-0 in the first minute of play.

In the second period Sam Gagner scored his first goal of the season when he snapped a shot over the goalie Tim Thomas off a pass from Nail Yakupov to make it 2-0. Late in the second Perron tipped in a slap shot from Justin Shultz on another power play to give the Oil a 3-0 lead. The Panthers pressed back and scored to make it 3-1. In the third period the Oilers kept them at bay and in the dying minutes Eberly scored his second of the game with assists from Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins into an empty net for a final score of 4-1.

Oilers Young Guns Crush the Blue Jackets

The Edmonton Oiler Young Guns crushed the Columbus Blue Jackets 7-0 to snap a six game home loss drought. Jordan Eberly opened the scoring when he circled the net as they cycled the puck and jumped on a loose puck on a rebound to make it 1-0. In the middle of the first David Perron tapped in a backhand goal on a power play to give the Oil a 2-0 lead. It was also the second assist for Ryan Nugent-Hopkins for the game. The Oilers added two more goals into the second period to make it 4-0.

Just past the half way point of the game Nail Yakupov scored on a rebound for his third goal in five games making it 5-0. Justin Schultz returned from injury after eight games and scored when he broke out on the right hand side and snapped in a shot to make it 6-0. Late in the third period Taylor Hall got a pass from Eberly and found himself on a breakaway. Hall fanned on the shot but it fooled the goal tender and the puck slipped under his pads to give the blazing Oilers Young Guns a 7-0 rout.

Oilers Young Guns Re-Ignite against the Flames

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns re-ignited in the third period to score 4 straight and defeat the Calgary Flames 4-2. The Flames started off quickly and took a 2 goal lead after 2 periods. Then in the third Taylor Hall broke down the right hand side and fed a beautiful pass to Jordan Eberly who shot a wrister up top to cut the lead in half.

Five minutes later Nail Yakupov brought the puck into the zone and dished off to Gagner who slapped a shot. The puck deflected high toward the net and Ales Hemsky was there to bat it out of the air to tie the game at 2. Two minutes later Perron was in the corner of the offensive zone behind the blue line and shot the puck shoulder height at the goalie. The puck bounced off his back and into the net as the Oil took a 3-2 lead. An empty netter was added in the last minute as the Oilers win.

 

Oilers Young Guns Score against Sharks

Nail Yakupov shot a blistering shot off a rebound to break the Oilers scoring drought at home. But the San Jose Sharks dominated the first period and early in the second to take a 3-0 lead. Joe Thornton collected 3 assists as they continued their dominance over the Oil at Rexall winning 3-1.

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns put on a spirited performance in the second half of the game attacking the net and hitting the post on several occasions. It is hoped that they have hit rock bottom and only have up to go.

Oilers Young Guns Scoreless against Stars

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns lost 3-0 to the Dallas Stars for their fourth straight loss. They went scoreless at home for the third consecutive time to set a new franchise record in futility. Jordan Eberly was robbed by the Stars net minder half way through the first period on a glove save in tight. Later in the second period RNH rang a shot off the post with an Oiler 5 on 3 power play. The Stars finished with two empty net goals as the Oilers Young Guns remain snake bitten and unable to score.

Oilers Young Guns Fall Short to Black Hawks

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns fell short to the surging Chicago Black Hawks 5-4. The Hawks took an early one goal lead. At the start of the second Ryan Nugent Hopkins received a pass and zinged a wrist shot from the right circle over the shoulder of the Chicago net minder to make it 1-1. Later in the second on a power play Nail Yakupov blasted a slap shot from the left circle that whizzed home on the short side to make it a 2-1 game for the Oil.

Chicago responded with sustained pressure and scored twice to make it 3-2. The Oil went on another power play and Perron chipped a goal up over the goalie with an assist by Taylor Hall to tie the game. But Chicago pulled away and scored on a long wrister by Duncan Keith during a power play to make it 5-3.

The Young Oil were not finished yet, late in the third period as Jordan Eberly scored on a redirect to make the score close at 5-4. But once again the Oilers came up short to begin a dismal season.

Oilers Young Guns dropped by Flyers

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns lost to the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2 in a matinee match. The Flyers scored the firstĀ  2 goals until Perron scored the Oil’s first goal after returning from injury. The Flyers then went up 3-1. Taylor Hall found himself alone in the slot to score and make it a 3-2 game. But on the power play late in the third Vincent Lecavalier snapped a shot high over the goalie’s shoulder to put the game away.

Meanwhile, tough nosed defenceman Ladislav Smid was traded to the Calgary Flames to make cap space for a goalie. Space cadet goalie Ilya Bryzgalov signs on for one year and comes on over to the North Pole.

Oilers Young Guns Hit by Lightning

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns played a great game out shooting the Tampa Bay Lightning 40-26 but were still zapped 4-2. Taylor Hall returned to the line up after 7 games. He had 8 shots on net with 2 breakaways. Tampa’s goalie Bishop was up to the challenge and stopped his shots. But finally, on a power play, Hall snapped a wrist shot to beat the Lightning goal tender.

Jordan Eberly assisted on Hall’s goal and added another on a long feed to Fedun for Eberly’s two assists. Late in the third on a breakaway the Oilers were once again stoned by the Lightnings goal tender. The Oil’s effort and passion were good but that has to be turned into wins.
