Oilers Young Guns Shoot Up Canucks 7-2

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns lit up the Vancouver Canucks 7-2 as they won their last regular season game. Jordan Eberly scored the first goal on a sweet redirect to put the Oil on the board. Nail Yakupov scored the second goal on a five on three power play. The Canucks responded to tie the score at 2-2. Then the flood gates opened as Justin Schultz scored the third goal on a feed from Taylor Hall. In the next 3 Minutes and 35 seconds the Oilers Young Guns erupted for five goals, setting a new record for the franchise for the fastest five goals.

Justin Shultz earned the first star honors as he scored the winning goal and added three assists. Nail Yakupov scored his first hat trick of his career and was tied for the lead in rookie scoring. Taylor Hall contributed two primary assists to finish with 50 points for the season. While Jordan Eberly scored two goals.

Shultz accepted an invitation to join Team Canada for the Worlds. He joins Hall, Eberly and Dubnyk as they head to Sweden on Tuesday. The Edmonton Oilers will clean out their lockers today as they wrap up another season.

Oilers Route Wild

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns routed the Minnesota Wild 6-1 to snap their three game loosing streak. The Wild have won 19 of 20 on their home ice against the Oil but the Oil were due for a win. It couldn’t have come at a better time to get pay back as the Wild needed one win to clinch a playoff spot but now face a must win in their last game.

Oilers Young Guns Jordan Eberly scored a goal and added two assists. Eberly sniped a goal in the top shelf for the Oilers fourth goal. Taylor Hall also had a goal and two assists as he used a Wild player as a screen to pick the top of the net for the Oilers second goal. Nail Yakupov scored twice as he moved up the leader board for rookie scoring.

The Oilers play their final game tonight at home against Vancouver on Hockey Night in Canada with the puck drop at 8:00 p.m. MDT.

Oilers Young Guns set for a Wild One

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns are in Minnesota to play the Wild. The Wild are still looking to clinch a playoff spot, so this gives the Oil a chance to play spoiler. The Oilers are on a three game loosing streak and have not defeated the Wild this year. This is an opportunity for Nail Yakupov and Justin Schultz to make any last minute efforts at their run for the Calder. Jordan Eberly has scored well against the Wild and hopes to tally a few more before the season is done. Game time 6:00 p.m. MDT.

Oilers Young Guns Eberly, Hall and Dubnyk to Team Canada

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns of Eberly, Hall and Dubnyk have accepted invitations to join Team Canada at the World Championships in Sweden and Finland. They will play from May 3 to the 19. Oilers Young Guns Justin Schultz may get an invitation as the team is developed. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is unable to join the Team but had successful shoulder surgery yesterday. Nail Yakupov may play for Team Russia.

The Oilers lost to Chicago 4-1 as the Blackhawks wrapped up the Presidents trophy with the most points in the NHL this season. The game was wide open but only Nail Yakupov with a sizzling one timer to the top corner was able to score for the Oilers. The Oilers Young Guns have two games remaining against Minnesota and Vancouver to wrap up the season.

Oilers Host Chicago

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns hope to win the rubber match against the Chicago Black Hawks who they face tonight. They have defeated them once and tied once and lost in over time. This would be a feather in their cap as the Oil have slumped over the last few games. Jordan Eberle has four points in the last three games and hopes to add to his tally. Oilers Young Guns Nail Yakupov and Justin Schultz also try to score in the last few games as they vie for the Calder trophy.

Ducks take down Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers were defeated by the Ducks 3-1 in their first of back to back games. The loss eliminated the Oilers from the playoffs. Taylor Hall scored the loan goal in the first minute of play. The Ducks came back to score three straight. The match continues tonight.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins Out for Remainder of Season

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is out for the remainder of the season as he goes for likely shoulder surgery. It was a decision decided upon when the time was right. In the meantime the Oilers prepare for a back to back home series against the Anaheim Ducks. This begins the last week of the season with five games in seven days. The games are all against playoff bound teams, Anaheim, Chicago, Minnesota and Vancouver. This should be a good test to gain some experience for a playoff run next year. The puck drops tonight at Rexall at 6:30 p.m. MDT.

Jordan Eberle lights the Lamp

Edmonton Oilers Young Guns Jordan Eberle was back on the score sheet as he lit up the Avs for one goal and two assists. The Oilers finally snapped a six game loosing streak as they dumped the Avs 4-1. Justin Schultz was the beneficiary of one of Eberle’s twisting turning moves to deflect Eberle’s shot for a sweet goal. Shultz had a goal and an assist. Taylor Hall started the scoring with a quick goal in the first period. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins added a goal when Eberle left a drop pass for RNH to snap home on the stick side.

Justin Schultz wins AHL Defenseman of the Year

Oilers Young Guns Justin Schultz wins the AHL defenseman of the year honors for his play earlier in the year. It is the first time in the leagues history that a rookie has won the title. In 34 games he posted 18 goals and 30 assists. With the oil he has scored 6 goals and 15 assists in 42 games. In the meantime, the Oilers are in Denver preparing for a game Friday night against the Avs. They are relying on the speed of their young forwards to propel them back into the winning column.
