Oilers Young Guns Fall to Nashville 2-0

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns fell to the Nashville Predators 2-0 in a closely contested contest. The young Oil played well outshooting the Preds 31-26, but two costly mistakes by two veteran blue liners each resulted in a goal. Once again Cam Talbot played brilliantly in goal giving the Oilers a chance to win.

Conner McDavid continued to gain experience as an NHLer, learning how to go up against the oppositions biggest and heaviest defenders. On one play he circled the Nashville net and spotted Yakupov moving in on the left. McDavid passed him the puck for an open shot but Preds goalie Pekka Rinne was up to the task and stopped the shot.

In Connor McDavid’s Debut Oilers Young Guns Lose 3-1 to Saint Louis

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns lost 3-1 in Connor McDavids debut. It was a close contest as the Blues potted an empty netter to close out the game.

Connor McDavid showed glimpses of the Superstar he could become in his first game. He finished with 22 shifts and 18:25 minutes of ice time. He collected two shots but was held off the score sheet and was -1 when he was on the ice for the empty net goal. The youngster knows he will need to improve in the face off circle as he went 3-13.

In the third period McDavid received a pass down the middle and broke free from the defence and fired his first shot off the Blues goaltender. He showed his breakaway speed on this play and looks to continue to improve as he gains experience in the NHL.

Oilers Young Guns get Backup

The Edmonton Oilers Young Guns GM Peter Chiarelli used the NHL Draft and Free Agency Day to bolster his line up. Chiarelli brought in defenseman Griffin Reinhart from the NY Islanders on draft day. As well as defenseman Eric Gryba from the Ottawa Senators. He then acquired Lauri Korpikoski from Arizona. Then on free agent frenzy day he picked up left winger Mark Letestu from the Blue Jackets. And once again bolstered the D by signing defenseman Andrej Sekera as a cornerstone to begin the season.

Meanwhile, reliable old hand Boyd Gordon was sent to the desert.
